Introduction to Yoga: For students with little or no yoga experience, this class introduces the basics of yoga in a safe and comprehensive manner. You will be introduced to yogic breathing, energy locks, sun salutations, standing postures and the finishing sequence. Upon completion of this class, you will feel confident to move on to any of our drop-in classes with the exception of Ashtanga Bootcamp. Ashtanga Flow: This class provides beginner students with basic instruction while more advanced students are able to work at their own pace.This energetic style of yoga will build core strength, flexibility and develop mental focus while calming the spirit. Ashtanga Bootcamp: You will be guided through 70 poses of the traditional practice also known as Ashtanga Primary Series. This is a fast paced, fun and challenging class, so be prepared to work hard and to sweat! This class is appropriate for students wanting to improve and grow in their Ashtanga Yoga practice. Previous experience with Ashtanga or Vinyasa yoga is highly recommended. Hatha: This yoga class is slower and gentler than Ashtanga. Hatha yoga aids in detoxifying the body, promotes balance, increases flexibility and concentration. You will also connect your breath and your body through breathing exercises, meditation and relaxation. Traditional yoga poses encourage the calming of the mind and nervous system. All levels welcome. Restorative Yoga (Gentle): Restorative Yoga is a profoundly healing form of yoga that is quickly gaining popularity especially amongst those students who have limitations, injuries or who simply prefer to move at a slower pace.This mindful practice is self-nurturing, allowing time and space to deeply restore and heal from daily stress.This gentle practice can also help to dismantle chronic tension patterns, improve immune function, and bring the body and mind back to their original state of balance. All levels of ability are welcome. Yoga Flow: Open to all levels of practice and abilities, this class focuses on an exploration of basic yoga poses and how to connect them through attention to the breath, alignment and mindfulness. A mixture of standing, seated and inverted postures will leave you feeling strong and enlivened, yet calm and focused.All levels welcome. Karma Yoga Please join a volunteer yoga instructor for an all levels yoga class that will benefit both you and your community.Although there is no actual cost to attend the class, we are asking students to please bring either a non- perishable food item or small cash donation for the Brooks Food Bank. This is a great opportunity for anyone and everyone to experience a yoga class with no commitment. Whether you've been meaning to give yoga a go, are looking for a way to wind down from your week, or just up for a fun new experience, this class is for you. This yoga series is truly accessible to all levels, so don't be shy... come out and give it a try!" Prenatal Yoga: Take care of yourself while bonding with your unborn baby. Gain physical, mental and emotional strength and calm, in a safe supportive environment surrounded by other expecting mothers. An experienced yoga instructor and Mom herself, Christine is well versed in the benefits of Prenatal yoga. Certainly there are many positive effects, perhaps the most alluring being the calming effects on both mother and baby. Focusing on the breath allows you to be more present and to bring awareness and wonder to what is happening in the body. This prenatal yoga class is the perfect way to learn how to make the most of this special time. Mom & Baby Yoga: This Postnatal Yoga Class provides a nurturing environment for mother and baby to stretch, tone and relax together. Enjoy a fun, playful time while learning yoga postures and breathing exercises to realign, strengthen and rejuvenate your mind and body. There will be an emphasis on abdominal muscle and pelvic floor work, but feel free to go at your own pace and to do only what feels comfortable for you. Time will be set aside during each class specifically for Baby Yoga. Not only will you be bonding with your baby, but you will have the opportunity to get to know the other mothers as well.All babies are welcome until they reach crawling age. Kids Yoga (5-8 yrs old): This playful class explores yoga poses, breathing exercises, visual imagery and relaxation. Children will have fun while they make new friends, imitate animals, and create meaningful art all while building strength, gaining flexibility, and improving focus and concentration. Kids Yoga (9-12 yrs. old): Older children will learn techniques for concentrating, reducing stress and connecting to their bodies in a loving way. Partner poses, group games, self awareness and respect for others are emphasized in this fun and creative class.
Teen Yoga (13-17 yrs. old): This is a great class for gaining tools to help deal with stressful situations and everyday life.Yoga empowers teenagers to become more self-aware and confident. Students will gain a sense of well-being while developing strength and flexibility and will also learn breathing and relaxation techniques. Yoga for Seniors: Is yoga the fountain of youth? If not, surely it is the next best thing. You're only as young as you feel and yoga is one of the most youth-enhancing exercises around. This Hatha style yoga class is a great way for Seniors to increase joint mobility, respiration, body awareness, balance, strength, and vitality. Most of the yoga poses are done either sitting in a chair or standing using a chair for support. There will be modifications provided for all of the postures so that everyone can work at their own pace and ability.You're never too old...and it's never too late! You will be amazed at what you can do. This class is Free of Charge and Sponsored by the Diabetes Association (Brooks & District).
